SEND

At Hounsome Fields Primary, we are ambitious and hold high expectations for all of our children. We recognise that adaptations are required for some children to achieve progress within our curriculum. High Quality Teaching allows for curriculum adaptations to be made, with all children working on the same skills and towards the same end point.

As a new school with only Year R and Year 1, alongside our SEMH Resourced Provision, we are building our inclusive culture from the foundation. Some children will need help and support throughout their time at school, whilst others will benefit from support for a shorter time. Most additional needs are met by adapted provision within the classroom. Additional, and more personalised provision, is made through a variety of evidence-based interventions.

All teachers at Hounsome Fields Primary are teachers of SEND, and all staff working with children with SEND hold the same high ambitions to deliver adaptive teaching. All staff are responsive and adaptive to what children can do.

Our ambition is holistic, and we recognise the key influences that interactively affect children's learning and development. Through our curriculum and adaptive teaching approach, we support complex everyday activities and interactions with each child's immediate environment.

Our Adaptations

Adaptations may include but are not limited to:

  • Scaffolding - breaking down learning into manageable steps with appropriate support
  • Visuals
  • Individualised timetables
  • Flexible grouping - organising children in ways that best support their learning needs
  • Use of technology - employing assistive technology and digital tools to support access and reduce barriers
  • Explicit instruction - clear, direct teaching of skills and concepts
  • Personalised elements of the curriculum - tailoring content, pace and approaches to individual needs

The Nest (our SEMH Resourced Provision)

Our SEMH Resourced Provision is an integral part of our school community, providing specialist support for children with social, emotional and mental health needs. Children in the provision benefit from:

  • Specialist teaching and support from staff with expertise in SEMH
  • A nurturing environment designed to support regulation and wellbeing
  • Opportunities for integration with mainstream classes, building towards increased independence
  • Evidence-based interventions tailored to individual needs
  • Close partnership working with families and external specialists

There are specialist admissions requirements for The Nest.
Children can move flexibly between the resourced provision and mainstream classes based on their individual needs and progress, with the goal of maximising participation in the full school community.
